Mexicana plane crashes

The following are significant events involving the airline or its subsidiares. The numbered events are those involving at least one airline passenger death where the aircraft flight had a direct or indirect role, and where at least one of the dead passengers was not a stowaway, hijacker, or saboteur. Only events since 1970 are included. The airline ceased operations in 2010.

  1. 31 March 1986; Mexicana 727-200; Near Maravatio, Mexico: One of the tires on the main gear exploded in the wheel well shortly after takeoff and damaged the hydraulic and electrical systems. All eight crew members and 159 passengers were killed.
