Japan Air System plane crashes

The following are significant events involving the airline or its subsidiares. The numbered events are those involving at least one airline passenger death where the aircraft flight had a direct or indirect role, and where at least one of the dead passengers was not a stowaway, hijacker, or saboteur. Japan Air System, originally called Toa Domestic Airlines was founded in 1971, and changed its name to Japan Air System in 1988. The airline was merged with Japan Air Lines in 2004.

  1. 3 July 1971; Toa Domestic Airlines NAMC YS-11; JA8764; flight 63; near Hakodate, Japan: The aircraft was on a scheduled domestic flight from Sapporo to Hakodate, Japan and while descending for landing. Because of a navigational error, the crew took a flight path that allowed the aircraft to hit Yokotsu Mountain. All four crew members and 64 passengers were killed.
